What is xFoundry@UMD?

xFoundry@UMD is a new initiative launching out of the E.A. Fernandez IDEA Factory that promotes technology innovations and advancements through collaborations with every academic discipline on campus.

Are you your own UMD department/how do you fit under the UMD umbrella?

We are a multidisciplinary program housed in the A. James Clark School of Engineering, but focused on engaging every school across campus.

Do I get elective credit or credit towards my major?

Students majoring in Computer Science, Information Science and Information Design can use Xperience courses toward their major electives.

How do I get involved with xFoundry?

Getting involved with xFoundry is easy and offers various avenues for engagement. If you're keen on hands-on experience and innovation, consider enrolling in our Xperience course. For those interested in a collaborative community of aspiring entrepreneurs, Xtrapreneurs, our student organization, provides a platform to connect and contribute. Explore these opportunities and take the first step towards shaping your entrepreneurial journey with xFoundry.

I am a student and interested in getting involved but don't want to wait until next semester. What can I do now?

Join our student club Xtrapreneurs to engage in xFoundry projects and earn prizes. Completing projects can earn you cash, points, or both. Points can be redeemed within our point system for various rewards, including discounts at IDEA Factory Café and eligibility for exclusive internship opportunities.

I am a UMD faculty member. How do I get involved?

Faculty members can engage with us as a mentor to student teams, Xperience instructor, or course collaborator.

I am interested in supporting this program as a mentor or investor. How do I do that?

What is Xperience?

Xperience is a comprehensive and multidisciplinary guided curriculum featuring annual targeted competitions. The program is strategically crafted to tackle societal challenges through the creation of sustainable ventures. The program has two tracks: the Academic Track and the Competition Track.

Students undergo a transformative journey, cultivating a founder's mindset. This process hones essential skills such as resilience, adaptability, and risk tolerance, empowering students to address significant challenges while fostering innovative solutions.

Can I participate in both the Xperience Competition Track and the Xperience Academic Track?

Yes!

What is xFoundry Xtrapreneurs?

xFoundry Xtrapreneurs is our student organization focused on entrepreneurship and innovation. Members complete real-world projects to earn points or cash prizes, which can be redeemed for exclusive benefits such as internships and networking opportunities.
