Chetan Joshi holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology, an MS in Pharmacology, and a BS in Pharmacy; he is a licensed psychologist in Maryland and Connecticut. Dr. Joshi currently serves as director of the Counseling Center at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) and as the advisor to the senior associate vice president of student affairs. In these roles, he oversees Counseling Services, Accessibility and Disability Services, and the Research Office.Prior to joining UMD, Dr. Joshi was the clinical director and eventually interim director of Counseling and Mental Health Services at the University of Connecticut, Storrs (UConn). Earlier, he was a staff psychologist coordinator of disability services at Franklin and Marshall College for four years.
Dr. Joshi is a member of the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD). In the past, he served on the Board of the Association for the Coordination of Counseling Center Clinical Services (ACCCCS).
Dr. Joshi has also contributed to research in the field of Counseling Psychology through publications in peer reviewed journals and by service as a peer reviewer for several journals, such as the Journal of Counseling Psychology, the Journal of College Counseling, Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology, Journal of Humanistic Psychology, and the International Journal of Existential Psychology and Psychotherapy.
Dr. Joshi has expertise in comprehensive counseling center development, the implementation of new systems of mental health care, higher education and disability services, well-being, diversity and inclusion, research, and testing.
