Dr. Chris Marano is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and an Associate Director of Psychiatry Residency Training. Dr. Marano is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist. Clinically, he cares for patients on the Older Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Dr. Marano also performs Electroconvulsive Therapy at UMMC. Dr. Marano has particular expertise in the treatment of the neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia and psychiatric disorders medically complex older adults. Dr. Marano’s research interests include the neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia, the neurobiology of late-life depression, and the relationship between late-life depression and dementia. He completed a career development award evaluating the role of insulin resistance in the cognitive impairment of late-life depression. Furthermore, he participated in clinical trials of pharmacologic treatments for the behavioral disturbances of dementia as well as multimodal imaging studies of late-life depression and mild cognitive impairment.
